Course Starting Date: 15/06/25

How to apply:
If you are interested in enrolling in our courses, please send a statement of interest to thesquaresymposium@gmail.com. In the statement of interest, please introduce yourself and tell us why you are interested in a particular course (word limit: 400 words). You are not required to know the text in advance, but you may indicate why reading a particular text appeals to you or how it might help you.
If you are interested in more than one course, please list those courses in order of preference in your statement of interest.
Who can apply:
Courses are open to anyone above 18 years of age. Applicants are not judged on the basis of their educational history or linguistic or cultural identity. That means an engineering graduate can apply to the course on Hannah Arendt’s The Human Condition, and a literature graduate can apply for a course focused on a text in the philosophy of mathematics. All we want to know is whether you possess the motivation and the commitment to stay with one text for three months.
Available seats:
The Square offers seminar courses which are held live on Zoom or Google Meet. Therefore, it is not possible to enrol more than 8 people in one course. If you are not selected for a course, then it is merely a reflection of the fact that we have very limited seats. In no way does it represent a judgment about your intellectual abilities. We keep all applicants in mind and will try to adjust them in future courses.
Fees:
Our courses are offered free of cost to all learners. If you want to donate to our community, please go to the ‘Get Involved’ section and reach out to us. Financial contributions help us sustain, strengthen, and make further plans for our growth.
Duration:
A typical course runs for three months. However, in special cases, a course may depart from this norm.
Each course will have no more than one session per week. Each session will be for 90 minutes.
-
Independent Study Seminar (Code: ISS): In this, a group of up to 8 people closely study a text for about three months. The group is led by a moderator, who merely organises the sessions and lightly moderates the discussion.
-
A Tutor-led Seminar (Code: TLS): In this, a group of up to 8 people closely study a text, and submit a short note (500 words) on the text every week or fortnight. The tutor moderates the discussion and circulates the submissions among fellow learners for feedback.
